Second Annual Cayman Jazzfest headliners include George Duke, Al Jarreau, and Yolanda Adams
Cayman Jazzfest runs December 1–3, 2005 on Grand Cayman
October 2005 - George Duke, Al Jarreau, Yolanda Adams, Earl Klugh, Ravi Coltrane and Najee headline the second Cayman Jazzfest, December 1st to 3rd, 2005. Brought together by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and BET, guests will also enjoy the sounds of local artists Intransit, Hi Tide, Kay Kay, Sea n B, Notch and Club Dred, Steel Pan, Swanky Kitchen Band, and Dance Unlimited.
“Definitely a weekend not to miss,” says Pilar Bush, Director of Tourism. “We’re thrilled that we’ve been able to attract such amazing talent, both locally and internationally, and hope that both visitors and residents seize the opportunity to hear first hand some of the best music the world has to offer.”
Venues are being finalized, however, the format for the festival includes one intimate evening with the artists, one large outdoor event, and one afternoon event appropriate for the entire family. The festival will be held at Pageant Beach, George Town, on Grand Cayman.
On Thursday, December 1st, Earl Klugh and Najee will perform in an intimate setting at the Westin Hotel. Friday, December 2nd will see international jazz legends Al Jarreau and George Duke take the stage, and families are invited on Saturday, December 3rd when Ravi Coltrane and Yolanda Adams wow the audience with their smooth jazz sounds.
“Our team at BET Jazz and BET Event Productions are pleased with this partnership and we enjoy working with the Cayman Islands. This destination has everything required to make a festival great. It’s a beautiful island with wonderful people, great hotels and restaurants, and more importantly, artists are excited to make the trip,” says Paxton Baker, executive vice-president and general manager of BET Digital Networks and president of BET Event Productions.
Tickets for the intimate event on Thursday night are limited and the Department of Tourism strongly recommends that jazz fans interested in attending book early. Prices are CI$75 for Thursday night, CI$50 for Friday night, and CI$25 for the Saturday family event where children under 12 will be allowed in free. A family pass of four tickets is also available for the Saturday event.
The Cayman Jazzfest is a collaborative project made possible by the support of local and international sponsors, says Director of Tourism Pilar Bush. Major sponsors of the event include the Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa, Courtyard Marriott, American Express, Delta Airlines, Jazziz magazine, Red Stripe, Cayman Airways, Veuve Clicquot, and Tropicana Tours.
The Department of Tourism is working closely with Cayman Airways and Delta Airlines plus local hotels to put together special travel packages for visitors.
