Cayman Islands (December 2, 2005) - The Cayman Islands will once again host the Cayman Arts Festival. Scheduled for February 10-18, 2006, this unique week-long festival will showcase a range of events from jazz to classical concerts, educational workshops, and art exhibitions.
Artists for 2006 include the world-famous Harlem Gospel Choir from New York; the musically diverse and theatrical Bones Apart from the United Kingdom; the incomparable soprano Deborah Riedel from Sydney, Australia; “King of the Vibes” Roy Ayres and friends Hi Tide, Cool School, In Transit, and Mainstream with Yoshino Yanagihara; and piano duo Wayne Marshall and Micallef-Inanga, who return by popular demand.
For the grand finale, conductor Wayne Marshall, soprano Deborah Riedel, and tenor Paul Ferris join with the Festival Orchestra, Cayman National Orchestra, and the Cayman National Choir for an extravaganza of well-known songs, including Carmen, Traviata, West Side Story, and O Sole Mio.
The festival also offers ample opportunity for audience participation. The Harlem Gospel Choir will conduct a workshop for students at the First Baptist Church and Deborah Riedel, Wayne Marshall, and Bones Apart will be visiting various schools throughout the island to work closely with students. In addition, Cayman’s experimental drama group, The Better Read than Dead Society, encourages willing spectators to join in their theatrical illusion by participating on stage.
Tickets are available as of January 10, 2006 and cost CI$25 in advance or CI$30 at the door for each performance (children under 16 pay only CI$5) or buy tickets for all five performances in advance for the discounted rate of CI$100.
