Turks and Caicos Islands score high with scuba divers
Grand Turk/Salt Cay and Providenciales highlighted by readers of Rodale’s Scuba Diving magazine
Turks and Caicos (March 9, 2004) - The Turks and Caicos Islands have once again scored high with readers of Rodale’s Scuba Diving magazine. The Top 100 Readers’ Choice Awards published in the magazine’s January/February 2004 issue lists Turks and Caicos in seven categories for the Caribbean Atlantic region.
Grand Turk/Salt Cay was voted number one for the healthiest marine environment, number two for best marine life, number three for best wall diving, number nine for best dive destination, and included in the top five for best underwater photography locales. Providenciales was voted number five for best big animal encounters and number 11 for best dive destination.
The Turks and Caicos have been recognized in Rodale’s Scuba Diving annual awards since their inception in 1994. These recent awards add to the nation’s impressive collection of accolades over the last few years, including best Caribbean beach (Gold List, Condé Nast Traveler, 1999-2000); top 20 beaches to snorkel (Caribbean Travel and Life, 2001); top 10 diving destinations, best wall diving, and best advanced diving (Rodale’s Scuba Diving, 2001); best places to stay in the world (2000 Gold List, Condé Nast Traveler); and best beach for romance (Caribbean Travel and Life, 2001).
"We are delighted to have received these awards, which adds to the Turks and Caicos Islands’ growing reputation as a world-class destination," says Lindsey Musgrove, Director of Tourism. "We are always very pleased when our destination is recognized internationally for its natural beauty. These awards join our other awards for the best beaches in the world from Condé Nast magazine and awards for our accommodation and spas."
