Jamaica’s Strawberry Hill takes all-inclusive to exclusive heights
Island Outpost resort’s new inclusions in specialty categories appeal to wallet-tree travel
Jamaica (January 10, 2006) – Perched 3,100 feet up in Jamaica’s famed Blue Mountains, Island Outpost’s Strawberry Hill resort is adding another dimension to its signature service: guests can now check into their cottages under a new inclusive plan.
“This new concept appeals to guests who don’t want to be worrying about the bill at check-out time,” says Jason Henzell, president of Island Outpost. “Not to be confused with the standard all-inclusive resort offerings – no buffet lines thank you very much. Every gourmet meal at the restaurant can be enjoyed with the same level of service and the same exquisite dishes that we’re known for. And there won’t be a single plastic wristband in sight.”
Strawberry Hill’s exclusive inclusive program provides guests with a getaway that includes all meals, a wide selection of beverages, a customized mini-bar (stocked daily with juices, bottled water and herbal waters), transfers to and from the Kingston airport, an Elemental Identity stress relieving treatment with a spa specialist at the resort’s Aveda Spa, and all taxes and service charges. With every four-night stay, guests are entitled to a day at Lime Cay Beach, a little island that’s reached by a short boat ride from Morgan’s Harbour at Port Royal. Complimentary Wi-Fi service is available in the common areas of the property for guest’s convenience.
Twelve beautifully appointed cottages make up Strawberry Hill, all offering sweeping vistas of the peaks swathed in cool mists or the multicoloured waters of the Caribbean. The gracious Georgian architecture blends hand-carved fretwork and wood shingles with cooling louvers and ceiling fans reminiscent of the original 19th century buildings. Inside, candles and muslin netting lend a romantic ambiance, while modern amenities such as televisions, DVD, CD and MP3 combo players keep guests connected.
Hardwood floors and handcrafted mahogany furniture add to the air of a luxury plantation, and lush, well-tended gardens surround the property with more than 350 species of native plants. The cottages themselves dot the lower slope of the retreat, ensuring complete privacy.
One of the resort’s many features is an on-site Aveda Spa (the only one in the entire Caribbean), based on ancient Ayurvedic principles and philosophies. A sauna and a cooling plunge pool complete the complex, which has made its way into Jo Foley’s top 40 list of spas worldwide in the guidebook, Great Spa Escapes. A new shala, used by guests for yoga, perches on the edge of a 2,000-foot drop overlooking the Blue Mountains. Among the spa’s many unique treatments is the Signature Caribbean Hydrotherapy Wrap where all your seven chakras are massaged during an hour-long water therapy. All treatments use Aveda products, which are 100 per cent plant essences personally tailored to each guest’s preferences.
The restaurant at Strawberry Hill offers a different feast for the senses, pairing Jamaican and international flavors in what they call New Jamaican Cuisine. Executive Chef Darren Lee’s signature dishes include steamed snapper, jerk-styled lamb rack and Jamaican oxtail. At the end of a meal, an aromatic cup of Blue Mountain coffee is a must, accented by Lee’s homemade ice creams.
Owned by Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records and Palm Pictures, Island Outpost properties are known for their interesting character and stunning surroundings, and offer clients a feeling reminiscent of staying at a friend’s home. The group includes Goldeneye, Strawberry Hill, Jake’s, and The Caves in Jamaica, Pink Sands in The Bahamas and an exclusive selection of villas.
Rates for Strawberry Hill’s new inclusive program range from $670 per room, per night for two people in a one-bedroom suite to $1,100 per room, per night for two people in one of the deluxe villas: Birdshill, Highgate or Mountainview 2. Rates are valid through May 1, 2006.
