Taste of Cayman 2006, set for November, includes food tasting and competitions, entertainment and golf classic
George Town, Grand Cayman (September 26, 2006) – Taste of Cayman 2006 is a weekend of extravagant food and fun November 3-5. Tickets are on sale now (CI$50) and include admission to the Taste Restaurant Showcase and Cayman Cook-off to sample a variety of food, and automatic entry into the Taste of Cayman Ultimate Raffle to win a 2007 Mercedes Benz SLK Roadster convertible with folding hardtop, plus nine other fantastic vacation prizes. This year’s event corresponds with the grand opening of Boatswain’s Beach so participants can be one of the first to tour this exciting new facility and view the predator lagoon, snorkel lagoon and turtle ponds.
The Taste Restaurant Showcase features 40 of Cayman’s finest restaurants parading a sampling of their best dishes of both local and international cuisine. For those who fancy Caymanian cuisine, the Cayman Cook-off runs alongside the Restaurant Showcase. Professionals and amateur chefs compete to create the Best Traditional and Best Contemporary Caymanian dish using turtle, beef, pork or goat. Visitors are promised a feast of magnificent proportions.
Entertainment will run well into the night with live bands and DJ’s playing calypso, soca, rock, reggae, country and pop. Also included in the entertainment are games and prizes, as well as the Chevrolet Kids Corner with clowns, balloon animals, bounce about, craft making and face painting. Be sure to wear your bathing suit as the swimming lagoon will be open for trying SCUBA or just plain fun.
The Taste of Cayman Golf Classic, held on the same weekend, invites golfers of varying expertise to tee off at the Britannia Golf Course on Sunday, November 5 for a day of competition, fun and the opportunity to win various prizes. All are invited to enter the golf tournament by calling (345) 949-8522 or by e-mailing cita@candw.ky.
Proceeds from the weekend’s event will benefit Lighthouse School, Pines Retirement Home, Sunrise Training Center and many other local charities.
