Treasure Beach, Jamaica (November 7, 2006) – With its effortless bohemian resort style, Jake’s is known for immersing guests into the best of authentic Jamaica. Continuing this tradition, Jake’s is offering its guests local epicurean adventures.
Jake’s guests can discover the culinary delights of central and south Jamaica through Unique Jamaica’s Village Hopping Country Cuisine tour. They’ll learn to cook rural Jamaican favourites, as taught by local experts in breathtaking natural surroundings, and then develop a palate for fresh, flavourful island delights while dining with the community.
An enticing menu of Jamaican cuisine awaits Jake’s guests in the Village Hopping Country Cuisine tour. National dishes include ackee and saltfish with spicy calalloo, dumplings, bammy and fried plantain. Participants discover the classic methods of making bammy bread from cassava (a root vegetable) and creating coffee from scratch. While visiting Porus, guests enjoy samplings of Jamaica’s tastiest fruits, including naseberry, ortaniques, starapples and tangerines. They can sample sugar cane, plantain tarts and coconut gizzarders at the SWA Craft Centre Mandeville, sip on Appleton Rum specials at the Appleton Rum Factory and savour hot-peppered shrimps and fried fish in Middle Quarters. Alligator Pond, located on a local fishing beach, offers lobster and other seafood favourites during a sunset gathering.
For Jake’s guests, Unique Jamaica’s Village Hopping Country Cuisine tour is priced at $50 per adult, while kids 12 years and under are free. Rates are valid until December 31, 2006 (excluding transportation) and include lunch and refreshments.
