JANUARY
1 – New Year’s Day. Public holiday.
1 – Junkanoo, downtown Freeport, from 5pm Sunday, Dec 31 to 12 midnight and the early hours of Jan 1. Costumed revellers parade to the sounds of cowbells, goatskin drums, whistles, horns and home-made instruments.
1 – Staniel Cay Cruising Regatta and New Year’s celebration, Exuma. Traditional festivities including a sailing regatta, charity auction and floating drive (golf). Tel (242) 355-2024, David Hocher.

11-16 – 28th Annual Bacardi Rum Billfish Tournament, Port Lucaya Marina. One of the top 10 billfish tournaments in the world. Welcoming cocktail party 7-8pm, dinner 8-9:30pm, Isle of Capri Casino (Mar 11). Awards for first, second and third place and heaviest wahoo.
