Royal Plantation Ocho Rios invites guests to learn from artists Patrick Waldemar, P J Stewart, Annabella Proudlock, Marvin Ferguson and Jonna Brasch from January–May
Ocho Rios, Jamaica (January 30, 2007) – Royal Plantation’s hallmark infusion of impeccable luxury with distinct Jamaican character continues in 2007 with a stellar new lineup of local artists invited for the popular Artist-in-Residence Program. Participants spend a languid but educational weekend learning and creating their own masterpieces inspired by strolling blue peacocks and cascading tropical fauna under the backdrop of the Caribbean Sea. One’s own work, possibly coupled with inspiration to continue, becomes the most unique souvenir.
The 2007 lineup of esteemed artists at Royal Plantation includes the following:
January 2007, Patrick Waldemar: Born in Jamaica, Patrick Waldemar is one of the Caribbean’s leading watercolour artists and is represented in private collections in the US, UK, Canada and Jamaica.
February 2007, P J Stewart: P J Stewart lives and works in Jamaica, her home. Raised in the countryside of Kenya, then later the UK and now living in Kingston, tranquil nature, as well as potent urban energy, have become hallmarks of Stewart’s work.
March 2007, Annabella Proudlock: Founder of Harmony Hall, the Ocho Rios gallery showcasing Jamaican arts and crafts, Proudlock became enchanted with the island after relocating to Jamaica from Wales. She now exhibits in Jamaica, Antigua and Anguilla.
April 2007, Marvin Ferguson: Jamaican-born Ferguson has celebrated an award-winning career since the age of 14, having displayed on island, from the bustling streets of Kingston to the Ritz-Carlton in Montego Bay, as well as overseas.
May 2007, Jonna Brasch: Having been educated in her native Denmark, Brasch moved to Jamaica in 1988. Her work in oils, watercolours and mixed media has been exhibited at the National Gallery of Jamaica, Harmony Hall and for collectors, both locally and overseas.
The Artist-in-Residence Program will be available the last weekend of every month to all guests of Royal Plantation who seek to add a bit of creative adventure to their luxury escape.
