American Airlines adds new New York–St Lucia service
Non-stop flights between JFK and Hewanorra airports start November 15, 2007
New York, New York, USA (May 14, 2007) – American Airlines will add another new Caribbean destination from New York this fall when it begins non-stop service from John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to St Lucia.
American is already the largest US airline flying out of New York to the Caribbean, and the new flights will be the only non-stop service currently scheduled between New York and St Lucia, a lush tropical island located northwest of Barbados.
American will fly the route three times weekly beginning November 15, 2007, with flights operating into St Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport. Service will be flown with Boeing 757 aircraft configured with 22 seats in first class and 166 seats in the main cabin.
American currently offers daily non-stop service to St Lucia (Hewanorra) from Miami, while its regional partner, American Eagle, flies five times daily from San Juan, Puerto Rico (to George F L Charles Airport).
Effective November 15, flight #2009 departs New York at 10:45am and arrives in St Lucia at 4:20pm. The return flight #2018 departs St Lucia at 5:30pm and arrives in New York at 9:25pm. This service will operate on Thursday, Saturday and Monday through December 13, 2007, and then Thursday, Sunday and Monday thereafter.
St Lucia is the second new Caribbean destination from New York to be added to American’s schedule this year. Earlier, American announced it will begin non-stop service from JFK to St Kitts & Nevis, also starting in November.
It’s all part of American’s initiative to become the clear-cut airline of choice for passengers in the New York market. This summer, American will add additional flights from New York to Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Caracas, Venezuela; and San Francisco.
“For nearly four decades American Airlines has been a leader in offering travellers a wide variety of destinations in the Caribbean, and we are very excited to add New York–St Lucia non-stop service to our schedule,” said Peter J Dolara, American’s senior vice-president – Miami, Caribbean and Latin America. “Whether travelling for a getaway to a tropical paradise like St Lucia, or for a visit with friends and relatives, travellers can always look to American as their first and best choice to the Caribbean.”
“The people of St Lucia look forward to warmly welcoming visitors to our island from these new American Airlines flights,” said the Right Honorable Sir John George Melvin Compton, Prime Minister of St Lucia. “We know visitors will love our magnificent rain forests, beautiful mountains and attractive beaches as much as we do. And of course, we are equally confident travellers will enjoy the excellent facilities and wonderful shopping that St Lucia has to offer.”
