Dominican Republic gets new all-inclusive resort

Viva Wyndham Samana opens in Las Terrenas on the Samana Peninsula in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (December 6, 2004) - The Dominican Republic’s new $20 million Viva Wyndham Samana resort officially opened to the public in December 2004. Following the completion of property renovations, this 218-room all-inclusive resort features the addition of a Kid’s Club, a Mediterranean restaurant, discotheque, and fitness center.

Nestled on a beautiful golden sand beach in Las Terrenas, the Viva Wyndham Samana emulates the Dominican Republic with beautifully appointed exteriors and interiors of Caribbean-style architecture and design. All rooms include satellite television and private balcony with garden or ocean views. For dining, guests can choose from three restaurants, including an Asian restaurant, an a la carte international buffet-style eatery, and a new Mediterranean a la carte restaurant, as well as a low-fat food corner with lighter fare. The resort offers a range of activities, including cocktail preparation classes, and windsurfing.

The unspoiled Samana Peninsula region, with its breathtaking beaches, is a well-kept secret in the Dominican Republic. Divers can enjoy 23 named sites ranging from shallow reefs to steep cascading reef fronts reaching depths of 140 feet. Samana Bay is internationally known for its humpback whale watching. From January 1 through March 30, tourists marvel at thousands of whales as they pass by the Samana Peninsula. At low tide, visitors can walk out from the sandy beach to observe sea life and coral reefs.

The charming town of Las Terrenas, only minutes from the resort, offers local hand-made art, clothing and jewelry, as well as restaurants nestled on the beach with quaint atmospheres. The Cascada de El Limon are magnificent waterfalls often visited by guided horseback treks. The Los Haitises National Park, which covers 83 miles, features mangroves, a subtropical forest, sea grass beds and three cave systems, which contain drawings from the island’s native Taino Indians.

Guests staying at the Viva Wyndham Samana enjoy an all-inclusive vacation package that features accommodations, all meals and snacks, unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, daily activities and fitness programs, unlimited non-motorized water sports with complimentary lessons, enrollment in the Kid’s Club, live nightly entertainment, and all taxes, surcharges and gratuities. Children three to 17 years of age stay, play and eat for $30 per child, per day.

Viva Wyndham guests also enjoy Wyndham ByRequest, the brand’s guest recognition program. Guests may choose items from a variety of pre-selected categories that appear on the Wyndham ByRequest profile form, such as a welcome snack or a preferred type of wine.

"The Dominican Republic is becoming one of the most sought-after Caribbean destinations and is rapidly gaining US market share, thanks to its natural beauty and distinctive culture," says Ettore Colussi, president of Viva Wyndham Resorts. "The Viva Wyndham Samana, in addition to the recently acquired Viva Wyndham Playa Dorada in Puerta Plata, gives us another opportunity to bring our signature value-added, all-inclusive vacation experience to an entirely new region of the island."
