Jamaica’s Sunset at the Palms resort in Negril gets a makeover

Sunset at the Palms in Negril, Jamaica, offers $100 off regular rates through December 2005 to celebrate its upgraded design features

Negril, Jamaica (September 14, 2005) – Sunset at the Palms, Jamaica’s newest chic and eco-friendly all-inclusive resort, just refreshed its tranquil, tropical property with a total makeover and is offering guests a $100 savings off rates.

Whimsical stilt houses, scattered throughout the ten-acre tropical garden, border the Negril Royal Palm Preserve. Sixty-five tree house-style rooms – once featured in ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST – tuck in among the flowers and towering trees, steps away from the azure sea. The resort faces a pristine crescent beach, long ago dubbed Bloody Bay by the true pirates of the Caribbean.

White drapes flutter over French doors in the airy guest rooms. Chic Asian-inspired furnishings include gauzy linens, deep wood furniture, and natural fibers. The sleek, modern bathrooms feature splendid slate tiles, chrome fixtures, and glass-enclosed showers with four body jets and two shower heads. Daybeds on the balconies make you feel one with nature. Natural fabrics and furnishings add to the breezy island vibe.

Special rates, effective for travel through December 23, 2005, are $250 per room, per night in a deluxe treetop room and $350 per room, per night for a one-bedroom suite. Single rates are $150 and $200 respectively. This is a $100 savings off regular rates and includes accommodations with a private balcony, all meals, bar beverages, afternoon tea and late-night snacks, all non-motorized water sports, access to the tennis court, nightly entertainment, taxes, service charges, and tips.

Sunset at the Palms’ renewal includes new architectural landscaping and whimsical gardens with flora carefully researched by the resort’s on-site horticulturalist. Walking paths and winding river stone trails greet guests, while the scents of frangipani and jasmine fill the air.

Birds sometimes swoop through the open-air lobby, now accented with a hardwood and slate floor and new furniture. The swim-up Bamboo Bar has been extended and enhanced, as has the Palm Grove restaurant, an open-air dining pavilion serving first-rate, buffet-style cuisine.

In the evenings, guests can gather before dinner at the sweeping new martini bar carved from Caribbean purpleheart wood and soak in the sounds of the soothing live piano music emanating from the resort’s resident baby grand. Bartenders serve the resort’s signature Appleton rum martini garnished with a slice of Jamaican pineapple.

Guests enjoy homegrown fruit and birdwatching amid the bull thatch and mango trees, plus paddle boating, kayaking, sunfish sailing, and snorkeling. Other new activities include guided nature walks, cooking and beverage classes, and fitness classes at the new fully-equipped, air-conditioned fitness centre with state-of-the-art Cybex equipment and aerobics/yoga room. Wedding ceremony packages are priced from $700 and include all the trimmings.
