Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (August 12, 2005) - International jazz legends George Duke, Al Jarreau, Earl Klugh, Chris Botti, and Ravi Coltrane will headline the second annual Cayman Jazz Fest, announced the Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Charles E. Clifford, earlier today.
The format for the 2005 Cayman Jazz Fest includes an intimate evening, one large outdoor event, and one afternoon event appropriate for the entire family. Scheduled for December 1-3, 2005, the festival will be held at Pageant Beach, George Town, on Grand Cayman.
“This year should definitely put the Cayman Jazz Fest on the ‘must go to’ calendar of international jazz events,” says Clifford. “Visitors will get the whole package - a great vacation and the best music the world has to offer.”
The Department of Tourism organizes the Cayman Jazz Fest in partnership with BET Jazz. “The fact that we’re able to attract such amazing talent is testament to BET's commitment to working with the Cayman Islands to make the Cayman Jazz Fest a success,” says the Minister.
“Our team at BET Jazz and BET Event Productions are pleased with this partnership and we enjoy working with the Cayman Islands. This destination has everything required to make a festival great. It’s a beautiful island with wonderful people, great hotels and restaurants, and more importantly, artists are excited to make the trip,” says Paxton Baker, EVP and general manager of BET Digital Networks and president of BET Event Productions. “This year will be even better than last year . . . and we are looking forward to presenting the concerts on BET, BET Jazz, and the VH1 Digital Networks.”
The Cayman Jazz Fest is a collaborative project made possible by the support of sponsors, both local and international, including Red Stripe, the first major company to sign up in a growing list of sponsors, commented Pilar Bush, Director of Tourism.
The Department of Tourism is working closely with Cayman Airways, Delta Airlines, and local hotels to create special Jazz Fest travel packages for visitors.
