Penn & Teller all-underwater magic show filmed in the Cayman Islands and The Bahamas

“Penn & Teller: Off the Deep End” to air November 13, 2005, on NBC

New York, NY, USA (November 9, 2005) – “Penn & Teller: Off the Deep End,” the underwater magic show, which was filmed in Grand Cayman in September, will air on NBC November 13th (7-9pm), the network has announced.

The two-hour show was filmed in the waters of Grand Cayman and the Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas, and features classically inspired and traditionally staged magic performed for the first time entirely under water.

Two-time Emmy Award winners Penn & Teller will make the Atlantis Submarine “disappear,” do tricks with sharks and “psychic” dolphins, and perform a new “super illusion” in which they walk on water. As with their Las Vegas stage act, they will reveal how they pull off their illusions.

“We’ve been living in the Las Vegas desert for years. Nothing but cactus, sand, scorpions and Wayne Newton,” Penn Jillette, the vocal half of the duo, said in a statement. “And we realized it was time to do a show under water. Magic needs a good head-soaking.”

“The show will bring incredible exposure to the Cayman Islands and our magical underwater world,” says Kathy Jackson, PR manager, Department of Tourism. “I would personally like to congratulate everyone on island, both public and private sector, who helped to make this NBC special a reality – in particular Atlantis Submarines for providing the ‘disappearing’ submarine, Chris Sariego and his team at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort for providing accommodations for the crew and exceeding expectations in every respect, and Chris Briggs and his team at Reef Runner Watersports for catering to the film crew’s demanding marine needs.

“I was also very impressed with the way that government pulled together to make this happen: Immigration Department, Customs Department, Police Service, Port Authority, Ministry of Tourism, Portfolio of Finance & Economics, Investment Bureau, and the Department of Tourism,” says Jackson. “I hope that everyone tunes in on November 13th to watch the show.”
