New 200-room Courtyard by Marriott Cancun International Airport set to open in 2007
Washington, DC, USA (November 28, 2005) − Marriott International will grow in 2007 with the addition of the 200-room Courtyard by Marriott Cancun International Airport under a franchise agreement with Hostal del Sol, SA de CV. When opened, the hotel will be the fifth Courtyard in Mexico and first of its brand in the popular Caribbean resort destination.
The three-story hotel will be located at the southeast end of Lagos del Sol, a mixed-use development covering 815 acres close to Cancun’s International Airport and just outside the main tourist zone in Cancun. The development will include private residential dwellings, restaurants, shops, and a private hospital.
The Courtyard by Marriott Cancun International Airport will offer a casual restaurant serving three meals daily, a bar and lounge, business services, high-speed Internet access, Wi-Fi access, a fitness center and swimming pool, and approximately 200 square meters of flexible meeting space.
“We’re excited by the continued expansion of our Courtyard brand in Mexico,” says Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging for Marriott International. “We currently have two Courtyard properties in the country with another two due to open in the near future. We see a huge market for the brand, especially among cost-conscious business travelers who appreciate consistently high quality accommodations and services at moderate prices.”
Speaking for the ownership group, Abelardo Vara, president of Grupo Cancun, the development company of Hostal del Sol, says, “Bringing a Courtyard to the world-renowned destination of Cancun is a wonderful opportunity to enhance the overall offering of quality hotels in the destination. This Courtyard will be anchored by our Lagos del Sol residential and commercial development, close to the international airport. This location will easily assist both business and leisure travelers to Cancun and the Riviera Maya alike with their accommodations needs.”
Marriott International is currently represented in Cancun by the 450-room CasaMagna Marriott Cancun Resort, the 449-room JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa, and the 365-room Ritz-Carlton Cancun Resort.
Marriott’s Courtyard brand portfolio in Mexico consists of the 129-room Courtyard by Marriott Monterrey and the 153-room Courtyard by Marriott Toluca. The 74-room Courtyard by Marriott Torreon is expected to open later this year and the 175-room Courtyard by Marriott Monterrey Galerias is scheduled to open in 2006.
