Marriott to open moderately priced hotel in Barbados
The Courtyard by Marriott Bridgetown is scheduled to open in 2007
Washington, DC, USA (February 6, 2006) – Marriott International, Inc will introduce its highly acclaimed, moderately priced Courtyard lodging brand to Barbados with a 120-room hotel in Bridgetown, under a management agreement with Caribe Hospitality of Barbados Ltd. The Courtyard by Marriott Bridgetown is scheduled to open in 2007 and will be the sixth representative of its brand in the Caribbean.
When open, the hotel will be located in Hastings, approximately two miles south of the center of Bridgetown in the historic Garrison District, an area of the city zoned for mixed-use development. The site includes the Barbados Pavilion, which was built in 1806 and served as a military garrison. Today the Pavilion has been fully restored and is now listed with the Barbados National Trust. The Pavilion will house the hotel’s principal public areas such as reception, lobby, bar, restaurant and meeting space with a newly built structure for guest rooms and a fitness room among other facilities.
“We are delighted by the continued expansion of our Courtyard brand in the Caribbean,” said Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging for Marriott International. “We are confident that this hotel will be readily accepted by business and leisure travellers to Barbados.”
The Courtyard brand – the result of more than two years of in-depth market research that probed traveller needs and interests – has evolved over the years to reflect changing customer preferences and today, it is a hotel chain that easily adapts to and reflects regional tastes globally.
Courtyard-branded guest rooms are generally larger than those offered by other hotels in its category. They feature oversized desks, two telephones, data port, high-speed Internet access, in-room safe, coffee service and iron with ironing board.
For dining and entertainment the Courtyard by Marriott Bridgetown will have a breakfast-only restaurant with an enclosed patio and a lounge/bar. Other amenities will include an exercise room, a swimming pool and Jacuzzi, a business library, a pantry and parking. Easy beach access will also be available.
