Curaçao hotel adds a luxury wing and state-of-the-art spa

Avila Hotel expansion plans scheduled for completion by December 2006

Willemstad, Curaçao (July 2006) – The Avila Hotel, a privately owned four-star boutique resort on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao, announces the addition of 68 luxury rooms, located in the new Octagon Wing, as well as a substantial beachside pool and state-of-the-art spa facility. The new wing began construction in April 2005 and its completion and grand opening is scheduled for December 2006.

Upon completion of the Octagon Wing, the Avila Hotel will feature 150 rooms and suites, all fully air conditioned, overlooking either the ocean or lush tropical gardens. The heart of the Avila Hotel is a beautiful Dutch colonial-style mansion, built in the late 18th century as the country house for the Governor of Curaçao, and still standing in its tranquil elegance, a unique blend of old world ambiance mixed with contemporary comfort and amenities.

Located on a beachfront parcel of land adjacent to the present hotel grounds, the new Octagon Wing will be the crowning achievement of the ongoing re-branding activities at the Avila Hotel as it transforms into a contemporary, luxury resort and spa. The expansion features 68 oversized rooms decorated in sophisticated neutrals with splashes of Caribbean colours. Room amenities include flat-screen TVs, high-speed Internet connectivity and lavish bathrooms with natural stone and wood textures and Elemis bath products. The exterior design of the Octagon Wing is contemporary, yet great care has been exercised to incorporate elements of typical Curaçao architectural style and to ensure that it forms a perfect combination with the classic Avila Hotel.

“We are eagerly anticipating the opening of the new Octagon Wing as we have spent hundreds of hours pouring over the design details to ensure that our guests will experience the timeless elegance and hospitality they have come to expect from us,” said Tone Moller, Avila Hotel’s director of commerce. “With the addition of a gorgeous seaside swimming pool and a new spa, we can confidently say that the Octagon Wing will set new standards in luxury accommodations for the island of Curaçao and for many parts of the Caribbean region.”

In addition to the new rooms, the expansion incorporates the construction of an expansive 1,722 square foot swimming pool built to meet the beach edge, as well as a new spa. The Avila will now be able to offer guests the choice of beach or poolside relaxation. The spa will be a brand new facility overlooking the Caribbean offering signature treatments such as water massage – a massage treatment given while patrons float in the ocean.

The top floor of the new Octagon Wing will hold one more extravagant treat. Measuring approximately 1000 square feet, the Bolivar Suite, named after the famed liberator of South America, will appeal to even the most discriminating traveller. The suite will offer sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea and the coastline of Curaçao, and furnishings will be unparalleled, featuring bamboo flooring and a grand piano, amongst others.
