Bahamas resort announces world’s first Grand Slam workout
The Westin and Sheraton Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort offers a calorie-blasting circuit that covers the same territory as tennis stars
Grand Bahama Island, The Bahamas (August 29, 2006) – The US Open kicks off this week, and travellers can shape up like a tennis champ with the new Grand Slam Workout at The Westin and Sheraton Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort.
The workout delivers tennis – ranked as one of the top five calorie-blasting activities – with a twist: quick sets opposite a tennis pro on all four surfaces of the world’s Grand Slam courts. Our Lucaya is the only resort in the world boasting each Grand Slam surface: red clay (French Open), manicured grass (Wimbledon), Rebound Ace (Australian Open) and DecoTurf (US Open). Ideal for time-crunched travellers, 30 minutes of tennis burns about 254 calories, according to a January 2005 Consumer Reports study. The ultimate multi-tasking workout, tennis exercises both the upper and lower body and also boasts cardiovascular and weight-bearing benefits.
The 60-minute Grand Slam Workout costs $150 and is open to guests at the Westin and Sheraton. Guests can schedule a workout with resort tennis pro Grovener Williams by calling (242) 350-5000.
