New non-stop service to George Town, Exuma and North Eleuthera begins June 16 with special fares starting at $199 each way, based on round-trip purchase, available for purchase by February 12
Nassau, Bahamas (February 1, 2007) – Delta Air Lines – Bahamas’ 2006 “Airline of the Year” – is adding two new routes between its largest hub in Atlanta and The Islands of The Bahamas with non-stop service to George Town, Exuma and North Eleuthera, subject to foreign government approval, beginning June 16. The new flights, to be operated by Delta Connection carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines, are the latest additions in the largest international expansion in Delta’s history.
“The Bahamas has been a preferred vacation spot for many years and we are thrilled to add George Town, Exuma and North Eleuthera as the latest convenient flight options from our Atlanta hub,” said Joanne Smith, Delta’s vice-president of marketing. “These flights complement our existing service to Nassau from Atlanta, Cincinnati, New York–LaGuardia and Orlando, and to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island from Atlanta, and reaffirm our commitment to be a leading carrier to the Bahamas.”
The new flights also come on the heels of an announcement by the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and the Bahamas Hotel Association that Delta has received the Cacique Award as the Bahamas “Airline of the Year” for 2006. The Cacique Award is the most prestigious tourism award in The Bahamas given every year to companies and individuals in the travel industry, including airlines, cruise lines, taxi drivers and hotel employees.
“Delta is honoured to be the Bahamas’ 2006 Airline of the Year in recognition for the excellent service provided by our employees to customers in the Bahamas and around the world,” said Smith, who accepted the award at a ceremony on January 26. “This award recognizes the continuing improvements in our service and flight schedules, including new cabin interiors, stylish new uniforms, celebrity-designed menus, signature cocktails, live, in-seat entertainment on long-haul flights and a long list of new international destinations.”
“The Islands Of The Bahamas welcome new strategic non-stop regional jet service from Atlanta to George Town, Exuma and North Eleuthera by our long-term partner, Delta Air Lines, winner of the highly coveted Cacique Award as ‘Airline of the Year’ 2006,” stated Bahamas Minister of Tourism, Hon Obie Wilchcombe. “This would stimulate increased tourism to Exuma and North Eleuthera from repeat customers and from new customers who would now enjoy unfettered, direct market access from Atlanta and from numerous cities that connect into Delta’s Atlanta hub.”
To celebrate the award and the new service, Delta is offering a special low introductory fare of $199 each way, based on a round-trip purchase, for travel between Atlanta and George Town, Exuma or North Eleuthera. Delta’s new flights to Georgetown and North Eleuthera will operate year-round.
Scheduled service between Atlanta and George Town, Exuma, effective June 16, is as follows: Flight #4419 departs Atlanta at 11am and arrives in George Town at 1:26pm Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The return flight #4420 departs George Town at 2:06pm and arrives in Atlanta at 4:36pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Delta’s scheduled service between Atlanta and North Eleuthera, effective June 16, is as follows: Flight #4457 departs Atlanta at 11:15am and arrives in North Eleuthera at 1:26pm Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. The return flight #4458 departs North Eleuthera at 2:06pm and arrives in Atlanta at 4:21pm Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.
A portion of travel for some itineraries may be on the Delta Connection carriers: Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Chautauqua, Comair, Freedom Airlines and Shuttle America.
Restrictions: Fares shown are available for purchase only on delta.com or from your travel agent. Tickets cost $10 more if purchased from Delta over the telephone or $15 more if purchased at an airport or city ticket office, and these amounts are nonrefundable. Travel agents may impose an additional service charge for ticketing. Tickets are non-transferable. Seats are limited and fares may not be available on all flights or in all markets.
Tickets: Fares shown are one way. Round-trip purchase is required. Tickets must be purchased within 72 hours after reservations are made, but no later than February 12, 2007. See delta.com for online ticket purchase requirements and restrictions.
Travel period: Travel may begin June 16, 2007 through August 31, 2007. Travel must be completed by September 29, 2007. No blackout dates. Minimum stay, two nights. Maximum stay, 30 days or September 29, 2007, whichever is earlier.
Fare validity: Fares are valid in the economy (coach) cabin on Delta Connection carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines flights only.
Cancellations/refunds/changes: Fares are nonrefundable. Delta may permit you to apply a portion of the fare value to future travel upon payment of applicable fees and fare difference, otherwise the ticket will have no value. Fees may apply for downgrades/reissues and itinerary changes. Delta may allow you to cancel certain electronic tickets until midnight of the day after purchase (or midnight of the departure date of the first flight, whichever comes first) without penalty if purchased at the time of reservation directly from Delta. Taxes/fees: Fares do not include a $3.40 Federal Excise Tax, Passenger Facility Charge(s) of up to $4.50, or the September 11th Security Fee of up to $2.50 for each flight segment in the passenger’s ticketed itinerary. A flight segment is defined as a takeoff and a landing. International fares do not include US International Air Transportation Tax of up to $30.20 and US and foreign user, inspection, security or other similarly based charges, fees or taxes of up to $280, depending on itinerary. These taxes and fees are the responsibility of the passenger and must be paid at the time the ticket is purchased.
