St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (January 2, 2007) – The Department of Tourism is pleased to welcome the introduction of new non-stop service on Northwest Airlines from Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) in Detroit, MI to Cyril E King Airport (STT) in St Thomas, scheduled to begin January 6. The new service culminates discussions between the Virgin Islands Port Authority, the Department of Tourism and the airline over the last several years.
Northwest Airlines now offers non-stop flights from its Detroit hub to St Thomas on Saturdays only. Flight #1731 departs Detroit at 9:45am and arrives in St Thomas at 3:08pm. The return flight #1730 departs St Thomas at 4pm and arrives in Detroit at 9:30pm. Northwest Airlines will utilize an Airbus A-320 aircraft with 148 seats. The new non-stop route opens new markets in the Midwest region for the US Virgin Islands.
“The addition of Northwest Airlines’ Saturday flights from Detroit to St Thomas is exciting news,” stated Acting Commissioner of Tourism Monique Sibilly-Hodge. “The timing couldn’t be better as the destination is experiencing one of its most robust winter seasons to date.
