RIU combines two Dominican Republic hotel properties into one five-star resort
The new all-inclusive Riu Taíno in Punta Cana combines the old Riu Taíno and Riu Melao hotels
(March 4, 2007) – The Riu Taíno and Riu Melao hotels in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, have joined forces to become an integrated resort with 620 rooms under the name Riu Taíno. Thus, the chain incorporates the facilities of two establishments built in the early 1990s into one single five-star resort with an expanded culinary offer under the all-inclusive formula to offer its guests more restaurant options and spots with different atmospheres.
The new Riu Taíno is located on the seafront of Arena Gorda Beach, where RIU launched its international operations in 1991 with the inauguration of its first establishment in the Dominican Republic.
Riu Taíno offers a varied daytime and nighttime entertainment programme for adults and children. Its nighttime activities include shows, live music, dancing in Pacha night club and admission to the casino at the neighbouring Riu Palace Macao.
After the conversion of the Riu Taíno and Riu Melao hotels into one sole resort, RIU now has more than 4000 rooms in the Dominican Republic among its eight establishments, which include five in Punta Cana and three in Puerto Plata.
RIU is one of the largest hotel groups operating in the Caribbean, where it has 27 establishments between the Dominican Republic (eight), Cuba (two), Mexico (12), Jamaica (three), the Bahamas (one) and Aruba (one).
