Mandarin Oriental reveals plans for exclusive hideaway resort on Grand Cayman
Luxury resort catering to sophisticated travelers set to open at Barefoot Beach in 2007
Cayman Islands (July 2005) - The high-end hotel group Mandarin Oriental this week disclosed more of its plans for a secluded beachfront property on Grand Cayman’s East End. For the first time the hotel group published an artist's impression of what they describe as an exclusive hideaway resort at Barefoot Beach off Queen's Highway.
"The project will extend our successful hideaway concept, designed for sophisticated travelers in search of tranquility, serenity, and luxury, to a premier travel destination in the Caribbean," the hotel group says in a statement.
Scheduled to open in 2007, the plans for the 10-acre resort include 114 lavish guest rooms and suites overlooking the Caribbean Sea and a 950-foot beach. All of the resort's spacious guest accommodations feature expansive outdoor terraces and balconies providing panoramic ocean views. Plans for the development also include 37 private luxurious condominium residences. At certain times of the year, when the owners are not in residence, the condominiums convert into additional hotel accommodations, which is included in the total 114-room count.
The hotel's island-inspired architecture blends elegantly with the lush, tropical landscape and beachfront, says Mandarin Oriental. Guest room and suite interiors will incorporate traditional Caribbean style with delicate Asian touches and each will come equipped with Mandarin Oriental's signature in-room technology and sophisticated entertainment systems.
Plans for the resort also include six restaurants and bars, each offering alfresco dining with an eclectic choice of contemporary cuisine and outstanding ocean views; an 18,000-square-foot spa featuring 11 treatment rooms, including two VIP couples suites, state-of-the art heat and water treatments, an outdoor Watsu pool, and a café with tailor-made spa cuisine; four specialty spa guest rooms, directly adjoining the spa facility, for guests seeking an encompassing spa experience; a state-of-the-art fitness centre; two outdoor swimming pools; two tennis courts; and a water sport centre with a full roster of activities, including windsurfing and kayaking.
Deep-sea fishing, boat rentals, and parasailing tours are conveniently located nearby. Additionally, the hotel’s concierge services will arrange shopping trips to town, tours of the nearby botanical gardens, and golf tee times on the lush fairways close to the property.
