St. Thomas Wyndham resort receives $3 million renovation
Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa renovation touches nearly every aspect of the resort
St. Thomas, USVI (July 29, 2005) - Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa, the cliffside island retreat on St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, recently began a $3 million renovation that will touch nearly every aspect of the resort. Set for completion by the end of 2006, renovations include a comprehensive transformation of all guest rooms and suites, enhanced landscaping, including the addition of poolside cabanas, and the opening of Tuscany, the resort’s signature Italian restaurant.
“With our new renovation, we are focused on further enhancing our guest experience with accommodations that combine Caribbean charm with contemporary comforts to provide a warm and inviting ambiance, while maintaining the high level of service and customization that is the benchmark of Wyndham,” says Abdel Zouari, general manager of the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa.
The highlight of the renovation will be the resort’s completely transformed guest rooms and suites, each offering a commanding view of the Caribbean Sea and neighboring islands. All guest rooms will receive new carpeting and a fresh coat of paint. Guest suites will receive new bamboo furniture to replace the existing armoires, bedside tables, coffee tables, chairs, and beds, while deluxe guest rooms will receive all new Island Plantation furniture. New lamps and lighting, as well as new luxurious soft goods and artwork, will add Colonial elegance to the décor in every room while new sleeper sofas in all suites will provide added comfort. Bathrooms will also be upgraded with imported marble tile and fresh wall coverings.
Along the resort’s beachfront pool deck, guests will find bright new cabanas housing a variety of island-themed activities such as hair braiding and temporary tattoos, the resort’s dive shop where guests can arrange snorkelling and scuba excursions, as well as an expanded Kids Klub location, which offers a full day of planned activities for younger guests. A selection of more secluded cabanas will provide a tranquil backdrop for beachside spa treatments.
To compliment the property’s existing dining options, the resort has opened Tuscany, an upscale Italian restaurant serving a range of traditional Italian cuisine. Tuscany can accommodate 45 guests during two reservation-only sittings and will supplement the resort’s all-inclusive plan.
Carved into a mountainside and surrounded by 31 lush, tropical acres, the 300-room Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa offers breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea and neighboring islands. The resort features a secluded private beach with extensive watersports and recreational equipment, three interconnecting freshwater pools with a waterfall and grotto, tennis complex, on-site spa, state-of-the-art fitness center, and a comprehensive schedule of daily activities.
