Riu Hotels & Resorts in Mexico recover quickly after Hurricane Wilma

Hotels in Playa del Carmen are open and Cancun resorts to open in coming days

(November 11, 2005) – Riu Hotels & Resorts announced today the opening schedule for their resorts in Cancun following the passage of Hurricane Wilma. Riu Palace Las Americas will reopen November 5, Riu Cancun will reopen November 11, and Riu Caribe will open December 20, 2005.

The five Riu resorts in Playa del Carmen, which include Riu Palace Mexico, Riu Yucatan, Riu Playacar, Riu Tequila, and Riu Lupita, have been open and operating since the storm and were welcoming new guests as of October 28, less than a week after Hurricane Wilma passed over the area.

“Riu resorts were able to recover quickly because of the quality of our construction and because we have a full construction crew in Mexico,” stated Miguel Angel Violan, communications manager for Riu Hotels & Resorts. “Repairs began immediately after the storm. We are also very fortunate to have a strong and dedicated team of employees. They ensured that our guests were safe and comfortable before, during, and after the storm. They make the Riu difference.”

For reservations at Riu Hotels & Resorts call 1-866-845-3765 in Canada, 1-800-666-8816 in the US, or contact your preferred travel professional.
