Ocho Rios, Jamaica (November 11, 2005) – Jamaica’s legendary Grande Resort has received a landmark renovation and a new name. The new, all-inclusive 730-room Sunset Jamaica Grande has completed its multi-million dollar renovation, which has been underway since winter 2005, and is ready to receive guests.
Formerly the Jamaica Grande Resort, the property was purchased by Sunset Resorts, a Jamaica-based company, which owns and operates Sunset Beach Resort & Spa in Montego Bay and the new Sunset at the Palms in Negril.
Sunset Jamaica Grande, located in Ocho Rios, received a property-wide overhaul along with new infrastructure. New additions include an open-air lobby, three additional swimming pools, three restaurants, two beach grills, eight bars, the Entertainment Pavilion, the Fitness Factory/Health Club, the Aqua Azul Spa, and the refurbishment of all guest rooms.
The new, open-air lobby links the resort’s two guest accommodation towers, which overlook the Caribbean Sea and Jamaica’s countryside.
With the addition of three new swimming pools, a total of five now offer everything for fun in the sun. Guests can take a dip and then relax at one of the two swim-up bars, cool off in a plunge pool or swim along the meandering water feature that links the pools along the pristine beachfront.
The new Entertainment Pavilion is the hot spot. Club Mongoose offers non-stop fun for kids, including an exciting water-jet area so kids can cool off while they play in the Jamaican sunshine. A teen games room features fun for the older set. Café Jamalicious serves up Jamaican fare and classic favorites. And each evening, top-notch bands entertain guests with classic tunes, reggae, and island rhythms.
The new Fitness Factory/Health Club is extensively equipped with top-of-the-line Cybex equipment and an aerobic area.
Inspired by the refreshing and majestic Jamaica Blue Mountains and the clear, calming Caribbean Sea, the new Aqua Azul Spa offers an escape for the senses. Highly trained therapists offer a variety of techniques, including Thai, Swedish, aromatherapy, reflexology, hot stone, sports massage, and others. Other unique spa services include reflexology, a milk and honey body wrap, mango manicure, and the popular coffee ground scrub to ease the appearance of cellulite. Spa facilities include three wet rooms offering a host of hydrotherapy treatments, single and couples’ massage rooms, two facial rooms, and separate steam and sauna facilities for men and women. Salon services include hair, make-up, and manicure/pedicure treatments.
The resort’s all-new restaurants include the Grande Palm, a buffet-style, open-air restaurant overlooking the fantasy pool’s meandering river and waterfalls and the sparkling Caribbean Sea; Ginger Lily, featuring Asian favorites infused with Caribbean flavor; LaDiva Italian, offering regional pasta dishes, fresh seafood, and foccacia bread from a wood-burning brick oven; Jamalicious, serving island and American favorites; and two new beach grills.
Sunset Jamaica Grande’s eight all-new bars provide great places to unwind and socialize. They include the Bambü Lobby Bar, Blue Mahoe Lobby Bar, Ortanique Lobby Bar, two beach bars and swim-up pool bars, as well as the Café Bean coffee bar. The famous Jamaica’N Me Crazy Nightclub received a refurbishment and the electronic casino offers electronic black jack and 80 slot machines.
Guest rooms received a soft refurbishment and feature private balconies, wood furniture, and cool tile floors. All include either a king-sized or two double beds, modern bathroom amenities, in-room safes, direct-dial telephones with voice mail, ironing board, hair dryer, color satellite television, and individually controlled air conditioning.
The resort offers a variety of activities, including a range of non-motorized watersports such as kayaking, paddle boating and water biking, as well as tennis on two championship courts lit for night play, and evening entertainment. Guests may also shop the resort’s many new stores, including a photo center where they can print their very own digital photos, a souvenir boutique, and an island wear and a logo shop.
Couples can celebrate nuptial bliss in the resort’s remarkable gardens or on the unspoiled 1,300-foot private beach, the longest in Ocho Rios. Wedding ceremony packages are priced from US$700 and include the minister’s fee, license, bridal bouquet and groom’s boutonniere, a bottle of champagne, romantic dinner on the wedding night and breakfast the following morning, a Jamaican wedding cake, and more. Receptions and dinners for larger events can be arranged at an additional cost and honeymoon packages are also available.
