The Bahamas offers a wide variety of timeshare properties for every budget. The industry is regulated under the Bahamas Vacation Plan and Timesharing Act of 1999. Also, most timeshare companies are members of exchange organizations such as RCI (Resort Condominiums International), which allow you to exchange a week in The Bahamas for a week elsewhere.
Following is a listing of timeshare options available on New Providence and Paradise Island.
Club Land’Or Resort, a charter member of RCI, is located on the Atlantis Marina, Paradise Island. It features 72 one-bdrm villas, pool, hot tub, fitness centre, pool bar, lounge and the award-winning Blue Lagoon Seafood Restaurant. Guanahani Village on Cable Beach consists of 35 town houses: 14 are 2,500 sq ft oceanview units with three bdrms and 31⁄2 baths and 21 are 1,850 sq ft garden units with three bdrms and 21⁄2 baths. Harborside at Atlantis on Paradise Island offers spacious, designer-decorated one- and two-bdrm villas with fully equipped kitchens, separate bedrooms, living rooms and entertainment centres. Villas accommodate four to eight guests. The resort features two pools, fitness and recreation centre and on-site restaurant. Ownership includes deeded access to all Atlantis amenities. Tel 363-7500.
Paradise Island Beach Club, a Festiva resort, has 44 two-bdrm, two-bath units right on the Paradise Island beach. Resales from $8,500-$35,000, depending on the season and view. Ownership includes access to Paradise Harbour Club and Marina’s water taxi. Tel 363-2523.
Paradise Harbour Club and Marina, a Vacations in Paradise resort, is the only RCI Gold Crown timeshare resort on Paradise Island. The 18-unit complex overlooks its own marina and picturesque Nassau Harbour. Floating ownerships of one- and two-bdrm apartments and hotel suites; prices vary according to size and season. Columbus Tavern, a full-service restaurant, is on the property. Ownership includes access to a private water taxi and beach at Paradise Island Beach Club. Tel 363-2992.
Royal Holiday at Wyndham Nassau Resort and Crystal Palace Casino offers a flexible multi-destination membership. The club operates a credit system that allows members to vacation in at least 75 different resorts around the world and with a number of cruise lines. Membership starts at about $10,000 and lasts for 30 years. Tel 327-5595.
Sandyport Beaches Resort is an RCI Gold Crown resort and vacation club with 72 units and plans for a total of 288. The resort has one-, two- and three-bdrm lockout deluxe suites. The complex includes ocean beach and lagoon beaches, tennis and basketball courts and a casual oceanside restaurant. Activities can be arranged via the on-site tour desk. Westwind Club II, on Cable Beach, comprises 54 two-bdrm, two-bath, air-conditioned units large enough for six people. Rates for deeded ownership range upward from $6000, depending on the season. The attractive property includes a snack bar, two tennis courts and two pools. Tel 327-7019.
