US consulate opens in Playa del Carmen on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula coast
Playa del Carmen, Mexico (July 12, 2007) – The Riviera Maya Tourism Promotions Board today announces the opening of a new US consulate in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, making it the third in the Quintana Roo area. This new agency will offer consulate services to US tourists in need of assistance while vacationing in the Riviera Maya.
The ceremony was presided by Felix Gonzalez Canto, governor of the State Quintana Roo, Karen Martin, consul of the United States in Merida and Samantha Mason, who was introduced as the consular agent in charge of this new office.
“The new US consulate is important to the Riviera Maya because we receive our highest number of visitors from the United States,” commented Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez, mayor of Playa del Carmen.
