Belize (September 5, 2007) – The Belize Tourism Board is relieved to report that Hurricane Felix completely bypassed Belize earlier this week and all hotels, tour operators and tour guides are open for business as usual. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people along the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua where the hurricane made landfall on Tuesday.
The government and people of Belize take the threat of hurricanes very seriously and on Monday, September 3, the country of Belize was placed on hurricane watch. Hurricane shelters were opened and voluntary evacuations were enacted on the cayes and low lying areas, especially in the south of the country. By Tuesday, the Belize National Emergency Organization had declared the “all clear” and many businesses reopened.
Belize suffered no damage from Hurricane Felix and hotels, tour operators and tour guides throughout the country are open for business and welcoming visitors. International flights were not interrupted and are scheduled as usual.
