Roseau, Dominica (July 26, 2006) – Beginning August 1, 2006, Carib Aviation’s Dominica Air Taxi will serve the Caribbean island of Dominica daily from Antigua and St Lucia with seven round-trip, non-stop flights, for a total of 44 flights weekly.

On Sundays flight #DEL105 departs Antigua at 11:30am and arrives in Dominica at 12:20pm. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays flight #DEL109 departs Antigua at 12:30pm and arrives in Dominica at 1:20pm. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays flight #DEL209 departs Antigua at 4:45pm and arrives in Dominica at 5:35pm.

Between St Lucia and Dominica, flight #DEL102 departs St Lucia at 7:45am and arrives in Dominica at 8:35am Monday-Friday. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays flight #DEL110 departs St Lucia at 4:45pm and arrives in Dominica at 5:35pm.

The flights will use a 19-seat twin otter turbo prop plane, and shared charter flights will be operated by Carib Aviation Limited. Introductory fares begin at US$79 per seat, one way, not including taxes and fees. All flights arrive at Dominica’s Cane Field Airport, just ten minutes from downtown Roseau. For more information, including flight availability and schedules, call 1-800-744-2323 toll free from the US and Canada.

“The additional flights arriving on island will offer travellers more flexibility in planning their trips to Dominica,” said Yvor Nassief, Dominica’s Minister of Tourism. “Especially with the increased attention that we’re receiving as a result of the recent Disney movie ‘Pirates of the Caribbean II: Dead Man’s Chest’ and strong interest in visiting the movie’s filming locations, this development could not have come at a more opportune time.”

Known as the “Nature Island of the Caribbean” and located between the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique in the Eastern Caribbean, the independent nation of Dominica (pronounced “Dom-in-eek-a”) is the largest and most mountainous of the Windward Islands, encompassing an area of nearly 290 square miles. Of volcanic origins with mountains reaching heights of nearly 5,000 feet, rainforests that are considered among the last true oceanic rainforests in the world, more than 365 rivers, waterfalls, boiling lakes and pristine coral reefs, Dominica’s natural diversity is truly unique. A place where man and nature live in harmony, adventurers and nature lovers alike will revel in the island’s eco-tourism options, which include scuba diving, snorkelling, mountain biking, kayaking, horseback riding, nature tours, hiking/trekking, sailing, fishing and whale, dolphin and bird watching. Dominica is also home to the last remaining settlement of the Indigenous Peoples of the Caribbean – The Carib Indians.

Dominica continues to be recognized for its attributes and sustainable tourism efforts, including being the first country in the world to receive Benchmarking designation from the prestigious eco-tourism organization Green Globe 21, and ranking as the only Caribbean destination in the top five happiest countries on earth in the Happy Planet Index (compiled by Britain’s New Economics Foundation).
