Bonaire to receive non-stop air service from Newark, NJ

Continental Airlines to begin second weekly flight to Bonaire beginning December 16, 2006

Kralendijk, Bonaire (August 2, 2006) – Building on the overwhelming success of Continental Airlines’ non-stop service between Houston and Bonaire, the Tourism Corporation Bonaire is pleased to announce that the airline will launch a second weekly non-stop flight between Newark, NJ, and Bonaire on December 16, 2006. The new Continental Airlines flight will provide the first non-stop service to Bonaire from the northeast US since 1980.

Continental flight #1553 will operate scheduled round-trip air service departing Newark Liberty Intercontinental Airport on Saturdays at 11:55pm and arriving in Bonaire on Sundays at 5:40am. The return flight #1556 will depart Bonaire on Sundays at 7am and arrive into Newark at 10:45am. After daylight savings time begins in spring 2007, the flight will arrive in Bonaire on Saturdays at 4:40am and depart the island on Sundays at 6am (arrival and departures times from Newark will remain the same). Continental Airlines will use a Boeing 737-700 airplane with 124 seats, including 12 first class and 112 coach class seats.

“This flight will provide much needed non-stop service to our most important geographic market, the northeast US,” said Ronella Croes, Director of the Tourism Corporation Bonaire. “We feel confident in saying that based on success of Continental’s Houston flight and with three of Bonaire’s top ten geographic markets being New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, all signs are pointing to this flight meeting or exceeding our expectations.”

Continental Airlines also offers non-stop service between Houston, TX, and Bonaire. This flight was launched on December 16, 2005.

Located eighty-six miles east of Aruba, the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire offers year-round sunshine, low annual rainfall, pristine coral formations and the most thriving fish population in the Caribbean. Ideal for adventurers, explorers and sun worshippers alike, Bonaire offers myriad eco-adventure activities, including world-renowned scuba diving and snorkelling, windsurfing, kiteboarding, landsailing, mountain biking, sea and mangrove kayaking, horseback riding, nature tours, hiking, birdwatching, sailing and deep-sea and bonefishing. And with a selection of accommodations ranging from full-service oceanfront resorts and condominiums to guest houses and small inns, Bonaire has something for every lifestyle and budget.
