New York–Barbados service begins January 2007; St Lucia and Grenada passengers to also benefit
Kingston, Jamaica (December 14, 2007) – Air Jamaica will operate new daily non-stop service between John F Kennedy (JFK) airport in New York and Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados, starting January 10, 2007.
In light of the decision by the new Caribbean Airline (formerly BWIA West Indies) to discontinue its operations on this route and after discussions with the Barbados government, Air Jamaica has agreed to provide this service.
Senior vice-president of marketing and sales, Paul Pennicook states, “We have done careful analysis and are confident that operating this route is a feasible venture for Air Jamaica. The transition will be seamless and passengers can start booking their flights immediately for travel from January 10 onwards.”
Air Jamaica will operate daily Airbus A-320 service from JFK to Barbados with 138 seats in economy and 12 in executive business class. This service will continue to St Lucia four days a week and to Grenada three days a week. This new schedule will also offer daily direct service to Montego Bay, Jamaica via St Lucia or Grenada, offering further connections to and from Air Jamaica’s US gateways in Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington DC, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Miami, New York (JFK) and Philadelphia.
“Air Jamaica is committed to supporting our Eastern Caribbean neighbours,” continues Pennicook, “and we are pleased that our St Lucia and Grenada passengers will continue to enjoy our Lovebird Hospitality to and from the Northeast USA, and will benefit significantly from non-stop service to and from Montego Bay with connections to and from the United States. He further pointed out that from January 10, St Lucia will have an increase in service to four flights a week.
