Marriott Hotel St. Thomas Opens new restaurant

St. Thomas Marriott resort opens new oceanfront restaurant. Latin-fusion inspired Havana Blue is unique in the Virgin Islands

St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands (December 1, 2004) - The Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort has opened a new Latin-fusion inspired restaurant at its property on St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.

Celebrated at the grand opening by more than 500 people, including community leaders, politicians and local business owners, the new Havana Blue restaurant has been an instant hit with both locals and resort guests.

Overlooking Morning Star Beach, Havana Blue’s décor features an eclectic mix of New York, South Beach, and Caribbean style to create a hip, yet approachable vibe. The restaurant’s cuisine combines authentic Cuban and Latin dishes with exotic spices and tangy sauces from the Pacific Rim. All of this, combined with restaurant’s oceanfront location, creates a culinary experience not seen before in the Virgin Islands.

Havana Blue features drinks made with freshly squeezed juices, such as Mango Mojito made with fresh mint and limes, and Sangria marinated with mangos, green apples and lemongrass. Menu selections include Yellow Tail Tiradito, Fresh Coconut Chipotle Ceviche, Peanut Soba Noodle Bowl, Duck Ropa Vieja, Mojito Glazed Skirt Steak, and Miso Sea Bass, as well as fresh fish and lobster brought in daily by local fisherman. The restaurant also offers guests pre-embargo Cuban cigars and includes a room for private parties.

"So far the response to the restaurant has been outstanding," says Havana Blue co-owner, Nicole Horstmeyer. "Many of the Marriott resort’s guests have visited the restaurant multiple times during their stay. Our philosophy for Havana Blue is that you only live once, but if you dine well, once is all you need."

Overlooking stunning Charlotte Amalie harbor in St. Thomas, the 481-room Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort was recognized on Condé Nast Travelers 2004 Gold List for Best Places to Stay. The resort features five restaurants, seven bars, three pools, Jacuzzis, water sports, tennis, health club, the full-service Reef Health Club & Spa, white sand beach, on-site shopping, and more than 60,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting and banquet space.
