New luxury resort opens in Dominican Republic

Luxury-seekers will revel in the new Agua Resort & Spa opening today as one of the Caribbean’s most exclusive resorts

(May 11, 2007) – Agua Resort & Spa is an oasis of seclusion and serenity in Uvero Alto, Dominican Republic. Situated 25 miles from Punta Cana International Airport, the highly anticipated resort is set along a private white-sand beach offering travellers a hideaway where privacy is paramount. Summer rates start at $400 per room per night, for two, with breakfast (from $350 starting in July). A special opening package is available for travel through August 31, 2007. Please inquire for inclusions.

With the introduction of dedicated 24-hour butler service, the property has elevated the art of personal service to new levels. Its 18 villas create 53 suites that blend the warmth of history with the ultimate in comfort and convenience, and its service is unparalleled. Traditional Caribbean architecture embraces the use of natural stone, local hardwoods and cane-thatched roofs.

The property was designed by the prestigious Dominican architect, Antonio Segundo Imbert, who created such spectacular projects as the Beach Club at Cap Cana and the home of musical artist, Julio Iglesias. The décor of the resort was created by Patricia Reid, well known for several notable projects throughout the Caribbean.

Guest suite amenities include Frette linens, Korres (a hip line from Greece) bath products, pillow menu, massive bathrooms with separate showers, vanity areas, walk-in closets, mini-bars and WiFi service. In addition to 24-hour room service and twice-daily maid service, guests can enjoy the services of a personal concierge and butler from check in to check out.

The property features two restaurants, two lounges, two large freshwater swimming pools, including a beachfront infinity pool, a fitness room, salon and a full-service spa.

Spa facilities include an indoor water circuit featuring mosaic-tiled Finnish steam rooms and saunas, large pool with Jacuzzi, cervical waterfall, bubble inox beds, sensations shower and ice fountain. Four individual treatment rooms and one couples’ treatment room are available for massages. Trained therapists offer treatments with Phytomer skin care products and the spa director has designed local treatments using coconut, pineapple and sugarcane.

For true indulgence, a private helicopter is available upon request for airport transfers and to explore the island. A courtesy SUV with driver is also on offer.

Executive chef Edgar González Barrado joins Agua from the three-Michelin-star Arzak in San Sebastin, Spain. He keeps things simple using local ingredients, fresh seafood and meats, and organic foods whenever possible. The resort supports local farmers and fisherman in order to maintain a sustainable community in the Uvero Alto region.

For recreation, guests can plunge into watersports and activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling, water-skiing, windsurfing, kayaking and fishing. On land, guests can serve it up on the resort’s tennis court integrated into the garden or enjoy world-class golf, located just minutes away.
