Puerto Rico summer 2007 events calendar

A full roster of summer events makes Puerto Rico the ideal summer vacation destination!

Summer comes alive all over the island of Puerto Rico this summer with a variety of events to keep every traveller happy. Events run the gamut from cool and chic to traditional and family oriented, all of them with the signature Latin flair that Puerto Rico is celebrated for. The listings below are only a mere sampling of what is being offered.

June 1-4: Heineken Jazz Fest
Celebrated yearly in Puerto Rico, this international festival of Latin jazz features the most recognized stars of jazz from all over the world, as well as top local jazz musicians. For more information call (787) 277-9200.

June 1-15: Puerto Rico Tourism Company Artisan Fair
This fair features more than four hundred artisans displaying their beautiful creations in the Dársenas Plaza and La Princesa Walkway in Old San Juan. Music, dance and typical food can also be enjoyed within this family environment. For more information call (787) 721-2400.

June 22–July 2: Aibonito Flower Festival
Held in the central mountain town of Aibonito (located in the central zone), the annual Aibonito Flower Festival features plant, flower, gardening and landscaping exhibits of the most popular kind – a paradise for those who adore plants and flowers. The latest varieties of tropical flowers and plants, pottery and garden accessories can be viewed and purchased. For more information call (787) 735-4070.

July 1-4: International Playero Los Tubos de Manatí Festival
One of the most important beach events in the country, the International Playero Los Tubos de Manatí Festival features well-known artists of Puerto Rico and Latin America. It is celebrated in the Municipality of Manatí. For more information call (787) 854-2024.

July 14-16: Mojo Isleño Festival
Mojo is a sauce typically used on fish plates. It has a tomato base with onion, green and red pepper. For more information call (787) 824-7934.

July 22-28: Congreso Mundial de la Salsa
This exhibition features professional and international salsa dancers. For more information call (787) 466-0168.

July 24-29: Traditional Santiago Apóstol Festivities
This annual celebration of the African heritage in the Loiza zone offers folkloric and religious ceremonies, which include costumes, masks and bomba dances. For more information call (787) 876-1040.

August 4-6: Buruquena Festival
During this festival, buruquenas (small crabs) are collected and cooked for the public’s enjoyment. This activity is celebrated in the Aguas Buenas municipality. For more information call (787) 732-8621.

August 10-13: 50th Interclub del Caribe Fishing Tournament, Cangrejos Yacht Club
At this international blue marlin fishing tournament you can also enjoy artisan crafts, music, typical food and other activities. For more information call (787) 791-1015.

August 16-22: International Billfish Tournament
Hosted by the Club Náutico de San Juan, this international fishing tournament is the longest consecutively held big-game fishing event in the world. For more information call (787) 722-0177.

Le-Lo-Lai Program
The Le-Lo-Lai Program offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy the culture of Puerto Rico and to admire its Spanish, Indian and African heritage. The program consists of six weekly folk and popular music shows presented Tuesday through Sunday in the southwestern and metropolitan areas. On Tuesdays at 6pm, the Folklore Areyto Group presents their “Alegria, Ritmo y Color” show in the Fuerte San Cristóbal in Old San Juan. On Thursdays at 9pm, the Beautiful Sunsets Folklore Group presents their “Noches Le Lo Lai” shows in the Mayagüez Resort. On Saturdays at 7:30pm, the groups Brave Rumba and Latin Flavor present their “Noches Ponceñas” show in La Terraza restaurant located in the Ponce Hilton & Casino. On Sunday at 1pm, the Guateque Folklore Group showcases their “Festidanza Puertorriqueña” in the Intercontinental San Juan Resort. Children’s Theatre
The Children’s Theater program takes place every third Sunday of each month from 4 to 5pm in the Arcada facilities of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. For more information call the Cultural Matters Informational Office of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company at (787) 721-2400.

Racetrack
Enjoy exciting horse racing at the Racetrack El Nuevo Comandante, a modern equine trail located in Canóvanas on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico. Races are held every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as on holidays. For more information call (787) 641-6060.

As a United States Territory, Puerto Rico does not require proof of citizenship from US citizens arriving from the US Virgin Islands or the US mainland. Entry requirements for non-US citizens are the same as for entering the United States from any foreign destination. Upon departure, a passport is required for all but US citizens.
