Playa del Carmen, Mexico (June 26, 2007) – The Riviera Maya Tourism Promotion Board today announces that Tequila Expo 2007 will take place August 16-19, 2007 in Playa del Carmen on the corner of 16th Street and Fifth Avenue. This year the third annual event will pay special tribute to the Mexican singer/actor Pedro Infante in recognition of the 50th anniversary of his death.
The Tequila Expo celebrates the significance of tequila in the Mexican national culture. The drink is equally appreciated by tourists, as research indicates that one in three visitors take home a bottle of tequila from their trip.
In recognition of his outstanding life and career, Pedro Infante will have a tequila named after him, and various artistic and cultural performances and activities will take place in his honour. Further, the Riviera Maya was a favourite paradise of his, so it is especially fitting that the destination is where he is being honoured on the 50th anniversary of his death.
“Through Tequila Expo 2007, not only is the image of a tourist destination being promoted, but also the culture of a country and one of the most important traditions of Mexico,” commented Javier Aranda, director of the Riviera Maya Tourism Promotion Board.
Easily accessible from many cities throughout the US, the 81 mile stretch known as the Riviera Maya is situated in the Mexican Caribbean in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula coast.
