Accommodations
There are three apartments consisting of a 1 bedroom studio on the lower floor and two 2 bedroom apartments on the upper floor. All bedrooms have comfortable, queen sized beds. The interior is decorated in shades of yellow, peach and green - colors which are cool and relaxing.
The studio apartment has its own patio with direct access to the outdoors, while the upper units have 2 patios; a back patio which overlooks the tropical garden, and a front, breezy gallery looking out to the beautiful, clear, blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean - a wonderful place to sit back, relax and take your morning coffee or afternoon drinks as the sun goes down.
The upper units are designed with a kitchen, living and dining area. All kitchens are fully equipped with cooking and eating utensils, stove, large refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toaster. Each apartment has air conditioning, cable television, telephone, hot and cold showers, hair dryer, and iron and ironing board. There is a laundry room available for your use, and free wifi internet if you wish to use your own laptop.
For a large family/group, the two upper units can be converted to a 4 bedroom apartment, as the units, though separate, are interlocking and can therefore allow for free movement between rooms. There are also pullout/folding beds which can comfortably accommodate extra persons. In addition, we have available for short and medium term rental, an attractively priced, one bedroom studio apartment, located just a couple of minutes off property.
A short walking distance away, at the top of the hill, is a small supermarket where you could pick up your basic supplies; while the larger supermarkets, bars, restaurants, banks and other shopping in St. John's are only an easy 20 minutes by car.
Ellen Bay Cottages is 5 minutes away from number of churches, including the historic Gilbert Memorial Methodist Church, St. Stephen's Anglican Church and the SeaGlans Seventh Day Adventist Church. Other historic sites such as Devils Bridge and Betty's Hope are closest to us than many other vacation properties. A visit to the National Park area of English Harbour, Nelsons Dockyard and Shirley Heights, located on the south eastern side of the island is a short 25 minutes away, while Long Bay and Half Moon Bay - two of the preferred beaches on the island are between 10 and 20 minutes by car. The shape of Antigua has been described as a "ink splash", with a number of hidden as well as accessible coves, and many of the other beaches are short distances away. Each one is worth a visit, until you decide on your favorite spot.
The eastern side of the island is currently the least populated, and getting to and from the property is easy from all parts of Antigua, as the roads are straightforward, with little traffic. Just follow the directional signs, as we wait to welcome you to this unique, little taste of Antigua.
About Antigua
Antigua (pronounced An-tee'ga) and Barbuda (pronounced Bar-byew'da) are often referred to as the heart of the Caribbean. A lot of this likely has to do with its location in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean, making it a hub for traveling to and from many of the nearby islands. The largest of the British Leeward Islands, Antigua has warm, steady winds, a complex coastline of safe harbours, and a protective, nearly unbroken wall of coral reef.
Preceded by Amerindian settlement on island, Christopher Columbus spotted and claimed the 14 mile long x 11 mile wide island for Spain in 1493, beginning a historical narrative that would in time grow to include British ownership, Africans brought to its shores in chains, and ultimately self-rule.
Neither Antigua nor its 68 square mile, sister island Barbuda, lying 30 miles due north, are particularly mountainous. On the former, Boggy Peak, rising to 1319 feet, is the highest point. Barbuda, meanwhile, is a flat coral island. The current population for the nation is approximately 68,000, and its capital is St. John's on Antigua.
Antigua has temperate climate with year round sunshine and blue skies. Many days have fluffy cloudy skies which are essential to help break the heat, and cool breezes from the trade winds. Hotter in July, August, and September, and cooler in the traditional winter months, the temperature year round tends to vary between 80-90 degrees. Don't take our word on the weather - check out some good weather web sites and see for yourself why Antigua is considered the perfect year round destination.
