Small Hope Bay, Andros (November 22, 2012) - For all our North American friends (and any one else who loves great food with great company) Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving at Small Hope is a wonderful time of year. Our guests enjoy the beauty of the island with good friends or family, the waters are still an inviting shade of Caribbean blue, and our chefs pull out all the stops for our evening feast! Our traditional holiday feast comes with additional appetizers, several side dishes, mouth-watering main courses and amounts of desserts in the double digits.
This year our veteran chef Irene is joined by new Small Hope chefs Don and Cindy as well as Scott Schultz, a guest and former chef of the resort.
In addition to the holiday season beginning, the trade show season is kicking off too! Divemaster Erin recently made the trip to our friends "across the pond" as they say. The Birmingham, UK Dive Show was a great success. In addition to meeting many future potential guests and divers she got to meet legendary Cave Diver Martyn Farr, a legend in the field.
Dive groups
Small Hope is a great place to bring your dive groups. We have 21 cabins which include our "family" cabins perfect for families or single travelers that wouldn't mind sharing a bathroom with a connected room. We are completely ALL INCLUSIVE. That means all meals, drinks, bar drinks are included in our rates, not to mention the hot tub, kayaks, bicycles, nature trails and more.
Environmental efforts
This week at Small Hope we got to be involved in two different environmental efforts, one addressing the growth and health of our reef, and one focused on controlling the lionfish population that threatens the marine life here in the Bahamas and other Caribbean areas.
(Andros Conservancy and Trust), which was formed with Small Hope Bay Lodge and of which Jeff Birch is secretary has developed a new coral farming program and this week Small Hope got to be a part of their efforts. A team from the Nature Conservancy came to Andros with the goal of setting up Coral Nurseries. They set up 5 blocks of new-growth coral, each featuring three different types of coral in each block.? These Coral Nurseries will grow the coral and can be used for future coral transplanting to any damaged areas of the reef!
Fishing, Diving, Birding, Weddings
This last week at Small Hope has really been a week to remember. Our guests have been enjoying all the things that make this such a unique and fun place to visit.
We have had divers off to see our incredible ocean Blue Hole and the Shark Dive. We have had some fishermen take off for a day on the flats of Andros for some world-class bonefishing. We have had a couple from Texas as well as a mother and son from New York out early in the morning to see the beautiful and rare birds?that live here on Andros Island. And yesterday we were honored to be a part of the wedding of Sean and Julia, who were joined by a few family members to have a beautiful beach ceremony in the Bahamas.
