Unique clothing, handbags, table linens and accessories made from hand printed fabrics in island designs such as shells, hibiscus flowers, seagrape leaves, pineapples and palm fronds. Simple designs in cotton and linen are popular with residents and visitors of all ages. New prints and colours are introduced each season.
Bahama Hand Prints was established in 1966 by artists Helen Astarita and Berta Sands and is recognized to this day for its hand printed fabric, its dazzling colours and brilliant designs that capture the beauty and culture of the Bahama Islands.
Today the business is managed by partners Linda Brown and Joie Lamare. The company is now centrally located in Nassau and operates both its manufacturing and retail sales from a factory-boutique complex. The business has grown significantly during the last few years expanding its range of products and wholesaling to local high-end retailers such as Andeana Designs, Windermere Spa [Lyford Cay], Goodfellow Farms, The Linen Shop, The Beauty Spot, Blue Rooster [Harbour Island], Rose Manor [Governor?s Harbour] and more.
What we do at Bahama Hand Prints
Design Prints
Although we still use artwork produced by the original owners we are continually creating new designs to add to our repertoire of prints. The factory includes a dark room where new designs can be transferred onto screens and made ready to print onto fabric.
Hand Print Fabric
Using the traditional hand screen printing technique plain fabric is transformed by Master printer Dylan Rapillard into richly colored ?artwork? which is then heat-treated in a special dryer to make it colorfast. Except for the newly introduced outdoor fabric that is 100% acrylic we print on natural fibers such as cotton, linen and cotton-linen blends. All of the inks we use are water-based and environmentally friendly!
Custom Print Fabric
We sell ready printed fabric by the yard and we also custom print to our customers specifications for home or office d?cor including fabric for draperies, bedding, cushions, throw pillows and furniture upholstery! The customer can select any design from our repertoire and we can print in any color they desire! [a 15 yard minimum]. In addition we have recently introduced outdoor fabric that is strong and durable enough to withstand exposure to the elements and this too can be custom printed in a limited number of prints and colors to upholster boat, patio, deck and poolside furniture [a 30 yard minimum].
Manufacture
We manufacture a wide variety of products including women?s dresses, trousers, capris, blouses, tunics, skirts, handbags, cosmetic bags, men?s shirts, household items such as tea towels, placemats, napkins, tablecloths, cushionand much more!
