Guavaberry is the legendary National Liqueur of Sint Maarten/St Martin where it has been made in private home for hundreds of years. It is an integral and cherished part of the island's cosmopolitan island's folklore and culture. There are folk songs and stories about it. Guavaberry is made from rums and the wild local berries from which it gets its name. The fruit is found high in the warm hills in the center of the island. Guavaberries are not like Guavas. The mature liqueur has a woody, fruity, spicy, bitter sweet flavour all of its own. Guavabery is still made in the center of town at the ancient Guavaberry Emporium at 8 Frontstreet. There you can sample Guavaberry and a wide selection of other rums and spices and hot sauces, all day long.
