There's always something new and different to see at The Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard. Exhibits of original artwork by local artists change every 6 weeks and reflect the diverse creativity of the art community in Bermuda which the Arts Centre seeks to nurture.
The historic character of the building set in the destination of Dockyard at the far western tip of Bermuda belies the contemporary art housed within. "Themed" shows encourage local artists to expand their knowledge with different subject matter and a variety of media resulting in an eclectic range of artwork. From experimental textile wall hangings to traditional scenes in watercolour, something is bound to capture your interest and imagination.
The Arts Centre is a non profit registered charity which was established in 1984 to offer a forum for local contemporary artists. Since that time, encouragement and support for the work and development of amateur and professional visual artists has been paramount to the organisation.
There are six resident artists; Jonah Jones, Chesley Trott, Amanda Temple, Chesley Trott, Christopher Marson, Alexandra Mosher, and Summer Wood who are happy to take time out to chat about their work.
Workshops covering a wide variety of subject matter take place on a regular basis at the Arts Centre. Ranging from watercolour to palette knife painting, silk screen printing to gilding these workshops encourage participants to widen the scope of their knowledge and expertise in a relaxed, friendly environment.
The Arts Centre also provides an area for the display and sale of an endless variety of local artists' work which includes paintings, sculptures, jewellery and pottery. The Print Gallery holds and extensive range of prints by local artists such as Diana Amos, Jill Amos Raine, Amy Evans, Sharon Wilson, Graham Foster and Mary Powell to name but a few, along with notecards, books and calendars, all featuring the work of local artists.
