  CUSTOMS
Adult visitors are allowed to bring in a half pound of tobacco or 50 cigars, and 1 quart (40 oz) of wine or spirits duty free.

IMPORTING ANIMALS
To import a pet you must apply for an import permit for which you'll need a health certificate signed by a government veterinary officer stating that the animal meets certain requirements.

GETTING THERE
BY AIR
Most flights arrive at E T Joshua Airport (airport code SVD; tel 458-4011) in Kingstown, St Vincent. There are smaller airports on Bequia (tel 458-3948 or 458-3984), Canouan (tel 458-8049), Mustique (tel 458-8368) and Union Island (tel 458-8750 or 458-8587), as well as a private airport on Palm Island.

You cannot fly direct from North America or Europe, but when you transfer in the Caribbean at one of six gateways (Barbados, Grenada, Martinique, St Lucia, Puerto Rico and Trinidad), your connecting flight can be as short as twenty minutes from St Lucia or as long as two hours and twenty minutes from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Flying time is about 35 minutes from Barbados, 30 minutes from Grenada and 45 minutes from Martinique.

BY CRUISE
Cruise ships dock at the Kingstown Harbour cruise ship terminal in St Vincent. Smaller cruise ships also visit some of The Grenadines.

Cruise lines that call on St Vincent & The Grenadines include Lindblad Expeditions, Majestic Cruises, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Seabourn, Silversea Cruises, Star Clippers, Windstar Cruises and Windjammer Barefoot Cruises.

BY YACHT
Upon arrival you must clear customs at the designated entry ports of Kingstown, Chateaubelair or Walliabou on St Vincent, Port Elizabeth on Bequia, Canouan, Mustique and Union Island.

Anchoring is not permitted off the Tobago Cays, a wildlife reserve.

GETTING AROUND
BY CAR
Roads are generally in poor condition, not well marked, and can be narrow, winding and steep with no guardrails. Avoid driving at night.

To rent a car you will need to purchase a temporary driver's license, which you can purchase for EC$50 at the police station on Bay St or at the Licensing Authority on Halifax St. Ensure you bring your valid driver's license from home. If you have an international driver's license you must get it stamped at the central police station.

On Mustique, golf carts and motorcycles are available to rent.

Driving is on the left. It is customary to sound your horn as you round a sharp curve or make a sharp turn.

BY TAXI
There are no taxi meters. The government fixes all rates, but you should verify the fare with the driver prior to departure. A rate sheet is available from the Tourist Bureau Office in the Government Administration Building on Bay St in Kingstown. Fares increase late at night and in the early morning. The fare from the airport to Indian Bay is about EC$15-20 and from Indian Bay into Kingstown about EC$25. Island tours cost about EC$40-$50 per hour for two to four passengers.

On Bequia you can find taxis under the almond tree in Port Elizabeth during the day and around the main night spots in the evening. You can obtain a rate sheet from the Bequia Tourism Association Office (tel 458-3286) in Port Elizabeth.

On Mustique you can find taxis in Lovell Village and at the airport.

BY WATER TAXI
Water taxis operate between Canouan and Union Island (45-minute trip, about US$100) and Mayreau and Union Island (10-minute trip, about US$40).

On Bequia, water taxis operate from the Frangipani or Gingerbread docks in Admiralty Bay to Princess Margaret, Lower Bay beaches or just across the bay.

BY FERRY
Admiralty Transport (tel 458-3348) and The Bequia Express Company (tel 458-3472) offer regularly scheduled ferry service between St Vincent and Bequia. Bequia Express also accommodates cars. They both offer numerous crossings daily, with fewer crossings on Sun and public holidays. The one-hour trip costs EC$15 one way and EC$25 return.

The Barracuda mail boat runs from Kingstown in St Vincent through the Grenadine islands making stops at Bequia, Canouan, Mayreau and Union Island. Consult your hotel concierge desk for the current schedule.

BY BUS
Minibuses operate the main routes of St Vincent, but they are often overcrowded and travel at excessive speeds. They operate frequently between Kingstown and the main hotel areas of Indian Bay and Villa. The central bus terminal is at the New Kingstown Fish Market or you can flag them down along the side of the road. Fares range from EC$1 to EC$6 depending on your destination.
